installing to new sata drive

Was hoping I may find some help here. In my current configuration, I have
Vista HP installed to an IDE drive. I've just purchased a new SATA drive
that I'd like to install Vista on as well as make it the boot drive. Could
someone give me some advice please?
Thank you,

Hi,

Install the drive, boot up and access the system BIOS. Set the new sata
drive as the primary boot device, insert the Vista disk and exit saving
changes. The system should reboot and load the DVD. At the initial setup
screen, choose your new drive and proceed normally by creating a volume and
formatting. If the new drive does not show, you may need to download a sata
driver from the manufacturer and load it at the setup screen.

Here is an idea that may be of use:

Install the new drive then bootup to Vista as normal
then make sure your SATA controller is installed correctly in device manager
(install any drivers that may be needed)

Now using cloning software such as Acronis (some new drive come with cloing
software)
.... clone your IDE drive to the SATA drive.

Shut down and temporarily remove the IDE drive, then set the bios to boot
from the SATA controller.

That usually does the trick, but once in a while a bootsector repair is
required.
(a repair option when booting from the Vista DVD)

If it works OK you can pop in the IDE drive later
