Installing SP1

I know, I know, "You're just now installing SP1"? I have been trying off
and on for probably over a year. The same thing happens; Using the Windows
Update site, the file will down load, but when it goes into setup to install
the file, it aborts the setup. It just will not install. I have tried MANY
times and it always aborts the setup. Any ideas?

Also please ensure you have administrative rights, and
that there is enough memory and disk space. If you open
task manager and view your processes you can see if there
is anything unusual running that may interfere with your
installation of SP1. Oh, also shut off any antivirus
software. If you don't have any you may be infected. I
would recoment trying the free scanner available at
www.trend.com follow the links for the free scan /
housecall.

Am I missing something here? Your reply said "Try it this way...except with
SP-2". When I click the link, I get instructions on how to install SP-2.
Also, there seems to be a lot of people having trouble with SP-2. Maybe, if
I ever get SP-1 installed, I should forget about SP-2. Thoughts anyone?

The point was skip SP-1.
There is little point in going to SP-1 now.

As for the issues you are seeing, there were similar issues with SP-1
when it was released.
The reason you see no issues with SP-1 is almost no one is installing
SP-1.
Most SP installation issues are prevented by preparations such as on
the Service Pack Installation Checklist.
Considering the large numbers of computers installing SP-2, the issue
rate appears low.
