installing software

I have xp pro sp2, i am trying to install new softwae but
keep getting an error that say "system file not suitable
for running msdos and ms windows applications." this is in
a box titled windows 16bit subsystem. this is a sudden
problem. i have disabled my antivirus and other programs
running in background. please help.

This is telling you, that you are trying to install a DOS
based game into an NT based OS, it's not going to work.
Some DOS based software will install and run using run as,
and some just won't install. You can try the following
start run cmd once the cmd shell is open, try running the
setup portion of the DOS based software ie D: setup
D being the letter of your cd drive.
