Installing programs problem

I just reinstalled (reformatted) the factory programs on
my Windows XP Home Edition laptop using the disks that
came with it. Everything is working great except for
reinstalling other programs that did not come with the
laptop. Everytime I try install a program it starts to
install but it never finishes. It closes the window
without finishing the install. If I am using any program
like , say Notepad, Paint, or the Internet or any program
already installed, no problem, the window stays open
untill I close it. But any new install will close the
window prematurely. Please help!

Try to see if your user has administartive rights on your pc.
Do you got any error messeges in the installation proccess ?
Update your WinXp with "Windows Updates"
