how do you move your files from old computer to new one
and import the contact information you have. please help

Hi over there,

1.. Open the application MS Outlook.

2.. Select the menu command: File | Import and Export...

3.. Select: Import from other program or file.

4.. In the next dialogue, select: file of personal folders (.pst).

5.. Now you need to indicate the complete path for your old *.pst.message
file

6.. Next, indicate the folder into which you want to import the messages.

7.. If you have several *.pst files, repeat this procedure for each of
them.

Once MS Outlook has imported your old messages, these messages also become
accessible for reading and searching in MailNavigator.

I am also having trouble importing a pst file. I have
tried this without success. I have the backup.pst on my
local drive (not network) and have verified that I have
full control for file permissions. In explorer the file
shows "office data file" instead of "outlook data file"
I have tried KB287837 w/o success (I can select pst file,
but it does not change the file type to "outlook data
file") and when I try to import the file the message I
receive is "The file c:\backup.pst is not a personal
folders file".

Any other suggestions?

Exchange 5.5, Outlook 2002 (XP)

TIA

J McLane

No need to import a .PST file, and doing so may cause loss of data and/or
settings. The .PST file can simply be opened in Outlook's folder list using
File | Open.

First make sure the .PST file is not marked read only. Then try opening it
in Outlook using File | Open | Outlook Data File. Does it work if you do it
that way?
