Installing Multiple Drivers for network printers

Guest

We are running Windows 2000 Pro network using workgroups
Currently I have setup printers/plotters on each work station a
network devices. All is working well, except now I need to tes
some new drivers for our HP 600 plotter we will be using wit
AutoCAD 2005. What is the best way to setup these drivers s
that I can test them from only my station and not effect any o
the existing printing and/or plotting from the other stations

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

Define a new printer with new share name that points to the same (old)
printer device on the same print server. Assign new driver to this new
printer. Instruct AutoCAD users to use new printer's share name when they
print from AutoCAD.

If I install additional printer drivers on the print server,
won't it overwrite the existing drivers?

Thanks for the response.

In fact you are defining two diferrent printers on a server, each with its
own set of (diferrent) drivers.
Ok, here it is step by step.
1. You have printserver named PRTSRV1.
2. You have one laser printer attached to LPT1.
3. You define printer Laser1PS connected to LPT1. You define this printer
with, say Laser PostScript driver.
4. You define printer Laser1ACAD connected to LPT1. You define this printer
with Laser AutoCAD driver.
5. When you want to print ordinary documents, you send output to Laser1PS
(or \\PRTSRV1\Laser1PS).
6. When you want to print AutoCAD drawings, you send output to Laser1ACAD
(or \\PRTSRV1\Laser1ACAD).

That is essentially what I did. Left the existing printer
as is, created a new one using the existing driver (for now)
assigned a new driver to the printer via the "new driver"
button on the properties of the printer. All that did was
change both the existing printer and the new printer to use
the new driver. Not really what I needed, as this has some
minor side effects with the existing printer.
