Installing MS XP upgrade

I am working with my mother after installing MS XP upgrade. The upgrade that
she bought and installed has SP2. She is having a host of problems. First she
could get NORTON ANTIVIRUS to work. After I helped her with this and got
NORTON ANTIVIRUS to work, she then could not get onto the internet. She
called her ISP provider and they had her do all kinds of stuff. (Not exactly
sure what) but know she can get on the internet, but NORTON has been removed
from her computer. Now when she tries using certain MS programs such as HELP
and SUPPORT the screen comes up empty. When we try to use REMOTE ASSISTANCE,
the computer screen comes up with errors. I have a feeling that the help from
her ISP did something to XP program to corrup some files. She also said that
she should not have performed the upgrade but rather should have done a
complete installation of XP. My question is, How is the best way to do a
complete installation of XP after an upgrade of XP has been performed?

Hi:

My guess for her first problem might come from not updating Norton
Antivirus. Symantec has issued an update (something similar to WMI) for its
products to work with SP2.

So it could be because of that for she could not access Internet. Now the
problem seems to be more complicated.

If I were you, I might try to remove SP2 (as Kelly suggested) and do the
Windows upgrade installation again and apply SP2 again and run all Windows
updates. Then I will turn off Windows Firewall and Automatic Update and
re-install Norton and run its updates.

After that, you could choose to turn on Windows Firewall and/or Auto Update.

PS: You may wish consult Symantec or check their web site first about how to
completely remove and reinstall Norton products. Sometime, it will leave
some files which might cause issues.

Good luck.

Could very well be true. And as this list of complexed issues come up so
often after installing SP2, would be sad to hear that it was due to Norton.
My expression of sad, is "totally" directed to Norton. SAD!
