Installing AntiSpyware disables Firewall

T

Tmos Sellis

I have installed AntiSpyware on 2 machines running
XP pro and in both cases after the installation
the Firewall was disabled and I am unable to start
the service (message is Windows cannot start Windows
Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service)

When I try to start the service myself I get an error:
Error 10047: An address incompatible with the requested
protocol was used.

All this worked before installing AntiSpyware

Any idea why this happened?

Thanks, Timos

Did the same on 2 puters - worked on the newest with
DDRAM and not on the older with 1gb SDRAM - don't know
whehter that has anything to do with it but the new and
fairly recent system worked fine but the 18 month old
didn't. Had to do a restore back to system settings
before I installed the antispyware. However that still
leaves the spyware on it.

For the Internet connectivity issue, please go to a
command prompt and type:
netsh winsock reset
and hit enter.
You can read about the causes of this issue and more about
the fix here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350
I'd recommend restarting in safe mode and scanning again,
doing full scans, and continuing to scan until a full scan
comes out clean.
Then let us know how things are going.

Thanks Engel finally found this post - yes the winsock
reset fixes the problem - thanks for your assistance.
