installing a new hd

i installed my new hd and obviously hvae it running im having 2 problems i
need to re format it because when i transfered info from my old hd it made
some partions i dont like. also i need to know what disk fail 40
means...... it happens when i trun aon and i can press f1 or del to enter
hit f1 i boot up what do i do?

Did you reconnect your floppy drive cables correctly when you installed the
new HD?
