Installing a new hard drive

I am upgrading my system and have installed a new hard
drive, a new mobo and a new cpu and wish to start out
with a clean install of win xp pro. I have the upgrade
version and an original version of win 98. How do I go
about installing a clean os version, and then
transferring my settings from my old hard drive to the
new clean os hard drive??

Install the new drive and leave the old one aside for now.. set your
computer to boot from cd (in BIOS) and start the computer with the XP cd in
the xd tray.. at some point, XP installation will ask for proof of a former
operating system.. all you have to do is place the Win 98 cd in the tray and
follow onscreen instructions.. having installed XP, set your old drive as
slave, and then you can copy over whatever you need..
