I have an officejet 4110 all in one installed on my Sony Vaio running
WXP-Home but I need to scan some negatives, can I installed my flat bed
scanner without uninstalling my officejet?

Can tell you that I have. Scanners are HP PSC 750, and Microtek Scanmaker
X12 USL (legal paper size bed).

Differences between the 2 are: HP on USB 2.0, Microtek on an Adaptec scsi
card that I selected and installed. Both use their own drivers that do not
overlap, not using same system files or drivers. Omnipage version 14, MS
Office 2K products both provide immediate access to both scanners. XPs
native scanner and camera wizard finds the PSC 750, but does not offer up
the Microtek scanner as an alternative. ME/98SEs native scanner wizard find
both scanners, and offers either for use.

Both scanners work in XP HE, ME, and 98SE here.

Maybe yes and maybe no. Since you failed to mention what your scanner is,
how do you expect an accurate answer? In most cases, the only problem will
be selecting the right TWAIN device when you use the flatbed scanner.
However, some scanner drivers are poorly written and don't play well with
multiple TWAIN devices loaded. In that case you are on your own. Just be
sure that you have the latest driver for both the HP 4110 and the flatbed
scanner.

Jonny, thank you for your response, may flatbed sscanner is a CanoScan D
660U. Do you think this will work?

I have the D660U and a recently added Epson Perfection 4490 Photo both
on USB connections. So far no problems or conflicts. Just be sure to
select the TWAIN source you want in whatever software program you are
using. I have XP Home on a four year old self built system with a USB
2.0 card added and a four port hub in between. It works for me however,
you will have to try it to see if it works for you. As advised by
others, it helps to make sure your drivers are up to date.
