Installer

I recently had a virus, I'm still not sure which one, but
the two other computers on my network had the nimda
virus....We successfully got them cleaned off, but are
having great problems with this machine!! I remember
during one of the virus scans the computer reported the
virus being in a backup file, therefore it kept restoring
itself, finally I deleted the backup file. Now the virus
scans report no virus, but the computer is still acting
very strange. ie. I cannot install anything or
uninstall anything I always get a report of the Windows
installer is not loaded the other problem is I cannot
access my system files each time I try to it tells me
that Im not authorized to access system folders, yet I am
the administrator. Also I receive outrageous amounts of
spyware! Everyday, each time I sign on I have to run
adaware and each time I get about 75-100 items that need
to be removed, this could be up to 5 times a day!!

This has been going on for weeks now, please help me fix
it...

Thanks, Kelby Tarpley

You need a firewall; or if you have one, you need to
enable it. The built-in MS firewall at this time is
lacking in that it does not monitor outgoing traffic from
your computer. Only one firewall should be enabled at a
time, so if you install and enable another firewall
disable the MS one.
ZoneLabs' ZoneAlarm is an excellent firewall, and they
offer a free version of their software.
It can be found for download at: http://tinyurl.com/kzq

You might have other problems that a clean-up and
firewall won't cure, but a clean-up of your computer and
installing and enabling a firewall is a necessary good
start.
