i preveously had windows 2000 pro. and decided to upgrade to windows xp home
addition. all was going well and all of the files had been copied when my
computer froze. ithought it was loading or somthing but it sat on a blue
screen fo an hour and a half. finally i shut it down manually. nou, when i
turn it on im greeted with this friendly message.

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing
or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system 32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file"

unfourtunately, it won't let me do anything but restart the comp after that
Please help!!!

I'm sorry. I was up late and "upgrade" was a misprint. I want to completely
erase windows 2000 and install wnndows xp home edition. Sorry for the
confusion.
