I recently installed SP2. when i restarted the computer afterwards, it kept
freezing. So i decided it wasnt a good idea for my computer, and i put it
into safe mode and tried to do a system restore. while it was restoring
files, my computer froze on a certain spot, and stayed there for 20 minutes.
i shut it off and turned it back on in hope of trying it again. but what
came up was not pretty.
My computer would start and then go to a black screen that says something
along the lines of "your computer was not shut down properly, please click on
one of the following types..." it gave me safe mode, safe mode w/networking,
safe mode w/command prompt, good local config setting, and start windows
normally. ive tried all five, and what happens it starts to try and load, a
blue screen w/words flashes and restarts it all over again. i do not know
what happened and i need help. what should i do?

This happened with me a week ago, was trying to put SP2 on a computer with a
Prescott Processor. I had to upgrade the bios, then it went into windows
just as smooth as can be. Not sure what you are running, but this was a
thought.

Could be your hardware is not compatible with SP2, you check with the
manufacturer of all your hardware.

How to use the Automatic Recovery feature to recover your computer if
the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup program is not completed
successfully:

If you have a Prescott processor, see the information about Prescott
on the link below.

Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select "Last known good configuration" at the menu.
If that fails, reboot tapping F8 again this time choosing Safe Mode.
Then System Restore to Date/Time before issue started:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore

Otherwise perform a Repair Installation:

When you are ready for SP-2, follow the Service Pack Installation
Checklist:
