Installed new hard drive; missing .dll file on new boot drive

I purchased a new hard drive to use as the new boot drive. I used the Maxtor
MaxBlast 4 utility to copy the contents of my C: drive (partition) to the new
boot partition on the new drive.

When I booted up using the new hard drive, some programs failed to start up.
I have Norton SystemWorks and Norton Internet Security. All of those
components were working except that Norton Antivirus seems to have
disappeared completely. (I'm working on that separately.) As for my Windows
XP issue, I'm running XP with Service Pack 2 and all updates as of July 7,
2006. I ran Norton WinDoctor and it is saying that several Microsoft.NET
Framework components can't find a necessary file "msvcr80.dll". I searched
for this .dll file and it is located in the Windows folder right where it's
supposed to be.

I also checked the old boot drive and the .dll file is in the same exact
location in that Windows folder. Does anyone know why Windows is failing to
recognize/locate this .dll file, even though it is present and located in the
correct folder?

I tried to copy and paste the .dll from the old boot drive folder into the
new boot drive folder. It's the same exact file with the same exact "created
on" date. Do I need to delete it and re-paste it? Or do I need to go through
some process of reinstalling it?

I tried to use my XP CD to do a repair install but I got a warning message
that my current SP 2 version would get wiped out, so I cancelled the
installation. I tried to use my SP 2 CD but that failed to open. Any thoughts
or ideas? Thanks.

If the system worked before, then clearly, the cloning was not entirely
successful. For the Symantec apps, remove them *entirely*, purge the
sytem of traces and re-install them, then update them.

Yes, that error with WinDoctor is fairly common. See below.

Aside from WinDoctor, are there any applications that complain that that DLL
is missing?

Probably, Windows *can* find it. WinDoctor, through its own fault, thinks
it's in the wrong place.

This is a problem with WinDoctor, not with the system.

No. That won't help because it isn't the problem. Copying the file
elsewhere won't help either.
Or do I need to go through
some process of reinstalling it?

You may need to re-install the apps that actually use that DLL and produce
the error message.

Note the comments in that thread from the head of the team that develops
that DLL.

Yes. Reinstalling XP will not fix Norton WinDoctor.
