Installation Source not available

I have an OU with just my computer account in it. I have created a gp that
is supposed to attempt to install Office 2003. I also have a security group
called Office 2003 Pro computers that also contains my computer account. In
the Security tab of the GP/Properties, I have assigned Read and Apply Group
Policy to the Office 2003 pro computers group. I have an installation point
(folder) on my server that has the PRO11.msi file. This folder has a share
on it where the Office 2003 pro computers group has full control. When I
restart my pc, I can see where it attempts the software installation. I say
'attempt' becuase after I log on, I go to the Event Viewer and it has 3
errors where it states that the installation source is not available. Has
anyone else had this problem?

Hi,

I have found everytime I start to mess with Security Groups I run into
trouble. Leave the security settings on the GP's alone. You can do
everything by simply creating OU's and Group Policies.

1> Create an OU Called "installing Office". Move all the computer you want
office installed on into this OU.
2> Create a GP called Installing Office on this OU and assign the software
install to computers. (make sure you specify a UNC path
\\server\officeinstall (make sure you Don't tick "Uninstall when moved out
of ...) I found having custom MST was a very good idea.
3> On the Share above \\server\officeinstall - set permissions for Domain
Computers = Read.
4> Move the computers back to their original OU's.

Works like a charm for me. I do this will all msi software.

Cheers,

Lara

I found where I didn't have the share on the folder that contains the folder
that contains the .msi file (hope that makes sense). Once I applied the
share on this 'main' folder, the GP worked, even with the use of a security
group to contain the workstations that will have Office installed on them.
Thanks for the help!
