GP and MSI Installation

J

Jeremy Schafer

Need some clarification on two different GP questions.

I have GPO setup in the DeptA OU to install Office 2000 to a particular
computer (call it compA). If DeptA bought Office 2000 licenses for all
of its employees and I changed group policy from installing Office 2000
on one machine to installing it to a group of machines (which contains
compA), will compA re-install Office 2000? Or better yet, what checking
does GP do when it goes to install software?

What is the difference between changing the security options of the GPO
and changing the security options for the MSI package in "Software
Installation"?

Thank you.

A: No IntelIMirror (Software installation) will not re-install the
application, there is actully a option for this at the package object, but
by defaults it will NOT re-install an exisiting installation of same Product
if it´s all redy installed.

Changeing the package premisson only take place of the particular package
object.

Chaning the ACL of the Group Policy object. will take place for all settings
in the particular Policy

Thanks for your reply. Just had a few more questions:

Product if it´s all redy installed.

What is that option so I know not to check it when I deploy packages?
Also do you know what specifically Intellimirror looks at to see if it
should install the package? Thanks.

Right click the package object and select Re deploy package
