Installation Problems

I have just gotten a new motherboard for my Pentium D system as I had a bad
PSU and problems with my old MoBo. I want to put a clean install of Windows
on my system since I have a completely different brand and model of MoBo. The
system BIOS detects both my HDD and Combo-Rom and allows me to boot from CD.
My WD Data Lifeguard Tools disc sees the HDD and its proper partitions that I
had from my previous MoBo. Now when I boot the Windows CD to format and
re-install Windows on my C partition, it says it cannot detect any HDDs. I
have plugged the HDD into a different IDE connector but to no avail. I have
both the HDD and Combo-Rom set up as Master as they are connected to
different IDEs. The combo-rom is only detected by the MoBo if it is in IDE 1
and the HDD is only detected if it is in IDE 2 or IDE 3. I have it in IDE 2
so it is the master primary drive. If I put the HDD into IDE 1 I can boot
into Windows from my old installation but cannot see my Combo-Rom from IDE 2
or IDE 3. Also, with this configuration, when I boot the system, it does not
show either a HDD or Combo-Rom as being connected and I am not given a choice
to boot from CD when one is in. So I have moved the Combo-Rom to IDE 1 and
HDD to IDE 2 so the boot screens detect these, but I cannot boot into Windows
as there are driver conflicts and when I choose to install or repair a
Windows install, it sees no HDD. Any ideas on what I need to do? I have a
Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro MoBo. Thanks!

I also have a Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro MoBo. Recent purchase, am trying a
clean install. Was prompted to insert "Service pack 2" Disk on installation,
and that Windows would need the disk to install properly. Went ahead anyway.
When I got into windows there was no help, troubleshoot internet explorer,
etc. Help icon is there but when I click on it computer can't find file. Have
installed drivers, but can access the internet or LAN. Have home network and
broadband. All other PC's fine. Can't update without internet access. Have
since installed service pack 2 from another computer but still to no avail.
ARRGH!...Please help someone!

I have trouble making out what kind of HD
IDE or SATA?
if latter, do you need driver? look at you mb cd or documentation. you may
have to make driver floppy and use that.

As soon as the windows installation flashes at the bottom press F6 to
install storage drives.( sorry I don't remember the exact key), press the
function key and install follow the prompt form there on.

I had an IDE connection and found out that there is a feature in the BIOS
called Gigaraid and I had to set it from RAID to ATA so it knew I wasn't
combining any HDDs and was just using up to 4 individual PATA/SATA HDDs.
Thanks for your help anyways! Gigabyte's tech suport is very helpful.

I have just bought the Gigabyte 8I945P-Pro, I am trying two set up two
SATA drives in raid 0 and am having problems every step of the way. I
the first time I have tried to build a barebones system, as such am
kind of learning on the job as it were. Have enabled the SATA
controller, and the Gigaraid function in the bios. Entered raid setup
(Ctrl I) and created my raid volume. And put the drivers on a floppy
(intel matrix - am assuming this is the correct one? - Intel chipset
ICH7R - if not this is probably my problem and could someone please
advise). Pressed F6 during windows installation, then loaded the
drivers, windows recongnises the raid volume, and then formats. After
reboot, windows begins installing but fails (blue screen of death),
can't remember what the specific error was, will post later when I get
back from work.
