Installation Pop-ups

I recently upgraded from ME to XP. I did a full restoration to upgrade
because I was having so many problems just running the upgrade. I have
Norton AV 2003 and reinstalled that after the upgrade. In the process of
downloading the updates from Microsoft and Symantec, I was bombarded with
virus warnings that Norton was trying to clean up as fast as they were coming
in.
I use a dial up so it took forever, but I finally downloaded most of the
security updates, SP2 for XP and the Symantec updates. However, when I go
online, I get hit with one installation pop-up after another. If I exit out,
I get a message saying the content on the page can't be viewed without their
software, yada, yada, yada. Of course, when I exit out of that, I get
another installation pop-up. I've downloaded my ISP tool bar with a pop-up
blocker, but it doesn't appear to be helping any. I also tried changing my
internet options to high for everything...still they come.
Most of them are from CDT, which I discovered is Adware. One is Slotchbar.
Is there ANY way to stop these things from popping up. I can barely navigate
around them.

Thanks
