Installation of XP Home Edition

I am currently running ME and want to install XP Home
Edition. I have the full program with SP1a. Will XP
automatically reformat my hard drive? Some information I
have seen suggests that this may not be necessary and that
XP can be installed over a prior operating system without
a reformat. If this is true, is there any advantage of
one installation process over the other, i.e. is it
preferable to do a clean install. Any thoughts?

Jim, a clean install is usually preferred. Booting from the WinXP CD, I
would remove and create a new partition and format.
