installation error msg

Tammy

Installed Windows 2000 out of the box. Haven't installed
any other programs yet. Everytime time I startup the
computer I am getting and installation error that states:

The APM software has detected an error. Certain files
that are needed for the APM software to correctly function
have been replaced by another software package. Hit okay
to re-try installation.

When I hit okay I then get additional fatel errors that
popup telling me they can not find C:\\setup.lst, etc.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be helpful.

I am using a PenIII, dell laptop.

Thanks!

Hi Tammy,
You should try toggling ACPI / APM settings in the BIOS, and/or upgrading
the BIOS to the latest version.

Was this a clean installation of Windows 2000, or an upgrade?

Also, did you perform the installation from a retail Windows 2000 CD, or
from a CD provided by the laptop manufacturer? If the latter, the
installation probably included this "APM software", and it would be a good
idea to discuss this with the hardware manufacturer also.
