What is the procedure if I wish to sell/dispose of my present machine
and wish to use my Xp Home Ed disk on a new machine ?

Retail copy of Windows XP (Came in a nice box, CD Key on the CD Case the CD
came in - not on a sticker on the computer?

Wipe the old computer of all traces of Windows XP.
Install Windows XP on new machine.
Activate Windows XP.

OEM copy? In strict accordance with the End-User License Agreement (EULA)
that you agreed to with every use.... You don't. You lost that right the
moment it was activated on the system.

If yours is a retail copy, simply remove it from the old machine and install
it on the new one.

But if yours is an OEM copy (for example, if it came with the computer),
it's license ties it permanently to the first computer its installed on and
you may not do this.

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not legitimately
transferable), simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on
and then install it on the new computer. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, the you'll most
likely be able to activate via the Internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
