Install Windows XP Home

Hey again!
When I try to reinstall or install a new copy of Windows
XP Pro a message comes up: Asms file is needed!
My computer is now 4 and a half years old! It has two
hard drives. one 40.gig and 80.gig and a PIII 400MHz.

Heres my question! Can I install Windows XP Home Edition
over the top of Windows Xp Pro??

Please send back answer!
Respect to all!
P.S-Thanks again!

Windows XP Pro is a superset of Windows XP Home.

In other words, XP Pro contains everything that is in XP Home plus
some additional components that are unique to XP Pro.

So what you are doing is in effect a downgrade from a more capable
version to one with fewer capabilities, at least in certain specific
areas. These types of installs have never been supported in any
Windows versions.

If you really must move from XP Pro to XP Home on that machine your
only option is to wipe out the XP Pro install and install XP Home
clean. You can use the Files and Settings transfer wizard to save
the data files and configuration settings from XP Pro before you wipe
out the drive and then can use it again to import the saved file into
XP Home after it is installed. Just save the FASTW data to another
hard drive partition, a network drive, or a removable backup device
such as a CD Burner.

Good luck
