Install vista over installed already installed vista

In November I upgraded my system with Vista Ultimate. When it was returned to
me I followed each prompt and did everything during installation it asked of
me. Now 5 months later is states that I need to validate. I guess whatever
was running on my system was temporary. Does anyone know that if I purchase a
new product key this will solve my issue or do I have to purchase a full
version? If I do have to purchase a full version can it be installed over my
already installed and running vista on my system?

A real honest to goodness Microsoft sealed DVD in original packaging?
If yes, then you shouldn't have any validation issues.

Just let it validate. That should resolve the issue. There's no need
to buy a full version if you already bought a updated version. Why it
waited 5 months to nag about it is anyone's guess. Expect dumb things
from Microsoft. That's their way.

Thank you for your suggestion. I wnet through what the article said but it
only allows me to buy a new , type a new or contact help. I have tried to
purchase a new key but I keep getting an error message #1067. Can you think
of anything else I could try? Thanks

So I need to purchase a full verison or just an upgrade? Will I need to
reinstall it again on my system for the new key to work correctly? Thanks

Thak you so much for your help. I will go purchase a new genuine Vista
Ultimate disc and try the change product key link and see if this work. Once
again thank you.

If you purchase the retail "upgrade" disk you will be able to use it
only on the computer you are upgrading. You cannot use it on any other
computer for any reason. However, if you purchase the retail "full" disk you
can use it on your current computer and any other computer you wish, without
time limitations. The "full" retail disk is the only way to go.

Maybe you can help explain this, After installing a new upgrade version of
Vista Ultimate and valadating my copy it says "Windows is activated". I'm
thinking ok, this took care of the problem. When I get back to my desktop,
in the lower righthand corner by the sidebar area it says" Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6001 This copy of windows is not genuine. I purchased this at a Costco
store and it was sealed when I got it. How can it not be genunie? I am hoping
you may be able to shed some light on this. Thank you

I'm sure your copy is genuine. Explaining Microsoft screwing up is
beyond me. With them, it's a daily thing. Just a wild guess. Awhile
back Microsoft was forced to admit that it has spyware embedded in
Vista that in effect "phones home" reporting if or not your copy of
Vista is legitimate. This isn't a one time thing, it KEEPS happening
on a random basis. Well guess what, somebody at Microsoft goofed up
the software this verification routine runs on and a lot of people
were labeled as "crooks" when it fact they too had perfectly
legitimate copies of Vista.

Hit the Start orb then right click on Computer then properties. Be
interested in what it says at the bottom. It should say Windows
Activation, followed by a long product ID number and over at the right
a blue logo saying ask for genuine Microsoft software.

I would contact Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295539
and give em hell. I sure would. They may give you a new product number
to get rid of the nag screen. Of course that very well could mess up
your install, remember its Microsoft crap.

Thank you so much. I feel so much better. I thought I did something wrong.
Yes it says windows activation and the blue logo is there. Next stop calling
Microsoft. Thak you again for all your assistance.
