Installing Vista Ultimate

I purchased and attempted to install the full version of Vista Ultimate to my
machine and it I try the upgrade I get a message that "Setup can not run this
version of the Operating System. To install Windows Please try booting from
the install media." This happen with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. If I
try to boot from CD I get the old blue screen of death. I've run the Vista
upgrade advisor and have no issues what so ever. I have two software (Adobe
6.1Pro and Microsoft Messenger) that state may have problems. I also have a
Canon Printer driver that states to upgrade to vista drivers after
upgrade/install is completed. I am running an AMD 64 X2 6400 CPU, 8GB RAM
728Video RAM and an ASUS Crosshair Motherboard. What can I do to resolve my
problem? Thank in advance

The 'setup cannot run this version of the operating system' usually occurs
if you try upgrading from a 32 bit to 64 bit version. But why are you
'upgrading' with a full version. Having a full version of the product, I
would have reformatted the hard drive and installed from fresh.

If, when booting from the DVD you are getting a blue screen then a driver is
probably at fault. If you have any USB devices installed the remove them
prior to the installation and see if that helps. One assumes that the blue
screen appears during the initial file copy to memory (pre-windows) or does
it appear when you get the graphical interface (post-windows)?

I run both 32 bit and 64 bit of Ultimate on the same machine (separate
partitions) and I haven't had any problems installing either of them.

I've removed all the connections except for the monitor and keyboard and this
still happens (Blue Screen) just after windows begins copying files. I tried
to upgrade after I couldn't get the install started any other way. My System
uses a Microsoft 6000 wireless keyboard and mouse which are the only items
still plugged in when I try to install from DVD.

You need to install using a regular keyboard/mouse - ps/2 if your
machine doesn't support USB. The drivers for your wireless
keyboard/mouse will not be available during installation and may be what
is causing the inability to install.

If you are going to attempt an upgrade (not what I'd recommend in your
case), uninstall all the flagged problem programs and any
antivirus/security software first.

I too use the Microsoft wireless 6000 keyboard and mouse and they do work in
the pre-windows environment, but I have had instances when using other
software when the 6000 version drivers have not been available in the
pre-windows (Old DOS). So I would agree with Malke that you might try
installing using a standard wired keyboard and PS2 mouse just in case the
wireless drivers are causing a problem.
