Install/Uninstall Error Messages

Last week I purchased new software for McAfee Internet Security. I have had
nothing but problems ever since, but before I blast McAfee, it may be
something that I did. I do have a relatively new computer (4 months old).

When I attempt to uninstall certain programs (McAfee included), I get the
error message that the Install.log file could not be found on several.
Perhaps I deleted something that I should not have?

(I am a full-time university student online and this is really crippling me.)

Use System Restore to put your system back to it's condition
before McAfee. Then return McAfee for a refund.

Free alternatives are available for both AntiVirus/Firewall - I
recommend you download and install eTrust 7.0 (1-year Free)
and Zone Alarm Free.

IN general, and if at all possible,
reinstall the offending software. Reboot.
Now uninstall using add/remove.

Thanks, that was fast! However, been there, done that. It will not allow a
system restore to last week before McAfee. That is what is really scary. I
know about "Full Factory Restore," but that is oh, so painful. Anything else?

Then re-run the McAfee installer. If presented with the option to
Repair choose that instead of full install. Afterwards re-try the
uninstaller in Add/Remove programs or just use the CD again
but select the Remove all option (if offered).

That is exactly what I tried yesterday before contacting McAfee online (a
five-hour endeavor of many things to do and try). The Internet Security
Suite has several parts, but none can be installed separately. When it gets
to the section entitled Personal Security, it hangs up and tells me to try
reinstalling again. This has occurred about six tries.

Any other ideas? (By the way thanks again.)

Unfortunately, yes. As I said, we went on for hours. They sent me how to do
a clean install, deleting stuff in the Registry Editor, Adjusting folder
permissions, running the installation repair tool, scanning, reinstalling
Windows script, and so on. I am now getting teary-eyed over your being close
to "at a loss!"
