cannot uninstall from add/remove programs

I've got a problem with uninstalling certain programs from Add/Remove
programs. I was advised by Mcafee tech support to uninstall Personal
Firewall Plus as I was having problems with it & I installed it prior to
installing SP2. But when I click on remove in Add/Remove programs of control
panel an error message pops up saying "could not open install.log file".
Where does that leave me for removing unwanted programs? Its not the only
program that does this. I haven't tried to manually delete any files. I
always use the applications uninstaller if there is one or Add/Remove
programs.

Also whenever I install new software I always choose a different location
than the default C drive. In my case its the H drive. Would this "break" the
installation thus make uninstaller impossible giving the results quoted
above??

I've run into this before. Try reinstalling it (over top of itself). That should
restore the log file. Then uninstall it.

First, does the install.log file exist in the programs directory? If
it does then I have found this procedure to work:

copy both the install.log file and the unins----.exe (or perhaps
unwise.exe) file to a temporary directory. Then use the "run" command
spelling out the complete path for both files.

For some reason the uninstall executable simply can't find the
install.log file in the parent directory.

Good luck.

It may mean that it has in fact gone. but an odd file got left so that
the final remove from the Add/Remove list was left
Take a look for the folder where it got installed, empty that out and
delete (you will probably find the .exe file has gone); then Start - Run
regedit.exe

Open left pane, explorer style to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
and use Edit - Find - in Data to identify the 'sub key' in that by
entering the name shown in Add/Remove (or enough of it to identify by).
Then delete that sub key
