Cannot remove program

Program is Handy Backup 4.0

Problem - I am unable to inactivate the program long enough so that it can
be deleted. Program activates itself as I try to remove it and error message
that uninstall can not access the INSTALL.LOG file.

Sure enough checked Task Manager & the program was running.

Try in Safe Mode, if still can uninstall it, then the uninstaller for this
program came corrupted and you need to contact the program vendor or use
another tool to uninstall it like this:

Any services installed by this program? Go to Start | run | services.msc.
If there are services associated with it, stop them and change their start
type to disabled. Then try to uninstall the program.

Hi Ray,
Try this:
Open a Run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK]
Also run disk Clean Up and Reboot try to uninstall the application?.
If still read the following and download the Windows Installer.
MS::<Quote>
The components to which these files belong are marked as permanent. (This is
done through the Attributes column of the Component table.)

None of the components to which these files belong have component GUIDs.
(The value for the component in the ComponentId column of the Component table
is NULL). Components without GUIDs are not managed by Windows Installer.

If the keypath of the component has a shared DLL refcount, then the
component will not be uninstalled.

If the component is installed in the system folder and at the time of
uninstallation there is an external shared DLL refcount for any one file in
the component, then the component will not be uninstalled.

Folders are not removed during uninstallation because of one of the
following reasons:
The RemoveFolders action is missing from the execute sequence table when
both the CreateFolder table and CreateFolders action are used.

The folders were not created by Windows Installer, therefore it will not
remove them unless told to do so.
Resources still exist in the folder.

Hi Nass,

The following are excerpts in reverse order from the Nova Tech Support
String. As you can see it is convoluted.

Ray
_______________________________________________________
===========================================
Erica,

Just rebooted and noted that HB did not load into my bottom tray.

Went into explorer and deleated the HB folder.

Went into Add/Remove and HB was listed. Clicked on removal and message said
it was already removed.Asked if I wanted it to be removed from list & Clicked
OK

Went into search and deleated all remaining 5 HB items and system appears to
be OK now.
_______________________________________________________________________

After it please re-run explorer.exe (press Ctrl-Alt-Delete simultaneously,
-->'Task Manager' --> 'Processes'; find there explorer.exe, select it and
press the “end process†button; then run Explorer again).
Delete Handy Backup folder.

____________________________________________________________________
It’s a pity to hear that the problem persists. Please try to do the
following:

Enter Win+R, type cmd -> OK. You will see the Command Line window. Please
type and perform the following commands:

1. C:
2. cd C:\Program Files\Novosoft\Handy Backup\
Did not accept - however accepted - C:\Program Files\Novosoft\Handy Backup\
See attached
3. regsvr32 -u hbshell.dll
could not find

You will get the message:

RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllUnregisterServer in hbshell.dll succeeded.
---------------------------
OK

Then please re-run Explorer process (explorer.exe) and delete the "Handy
Backup" folder. This may fix the problem. Please let me know the results.
___________________________________________________________________
I notice that in step 2 clicked on HB Backup folder and files were removed
eccept for -
Reg -SZ (Value Missing)

Whenever all traces of the HB 4.0 are removed and at the last step, the step
3 HB removal is tried the program activates before the INSTALL.LOG file can
be accessed by the UNWISE.EXE can be activated.
________________________________________________________________________

Thank you for your note! Most probably the Handy Backup agent is still
running during uninstalling.
So please, prior the step 2, do the following:

Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete simultaneously, ->'Task Manager' ->'Processes'. Please
find there backup.exe, select it and press the “end process†button. If you
also see hbagent.exe, end its process too.

Then please repeat the next steps (see me pervious message below).

To solve the problem, please uninstall Handy Backup manually:

1. Close the program window, right-click on the Handy Backup agent (the blue
"B" icon in the system tray) and choose "Exit" (the agent disappears from
system tray).

2. Go to Start --> Run..., type "regedit" in the "Open:" field and press OK.
In the Registry Editor window that appears, go to the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novosoft\ folder, right-click on the 'Handy
Backup' folder and choose "Delete".

3. Delete manually the Handy Backup program folder (by default it should be
C:\Program Files\Novosoft\Handy Backup).
