I downloaded Defender beta 2, Now every time I start my PC I get a message
that tells me Install Shield is trying to access my startup & Defender
doesn't know if it's ok cause the signature isn't known or something like
that..Isn't this install shield a part of Defender?? If not, where did it
come from ?? I haven't downloaded anything else.. & Geez, i just checked
Defender & I've got a NEW message:
Service & device drivers are changed.
It's part of Window:,system32 DDM12..It's NOT SIGNED & NOT YET CLASSIFIED !!
So, what do I do about 'Install Shield & NOW, DDM12 ???
Thanks, Patty

Tell Defender to allow them. You ARE using a Dell aren't you? DDM12 is part
of Dell Support ( a driver) and install shield is probably InstallShield
Update Services. I believe Dell may be trying to update something on your PC
or is monitoring to see if ypdates are needed.

It's just Windows Defender way of saying hello! - sorry, I will be serious
now. I experienced similar messages when I first used Windows Defender.
Windows Defender (WD) has a component called real time protection (RTP). RTP
has agents (look in WD Help - Understanding Windows Defender->Understanding
real time spyware protection) that monitor various conditions. I would
suspect that the Auto Start and Services and Drivers agents are issuing the
messages you see. I bet you are also getting "allow" or "block" prompts. In
the meantime, you should specifiy "allow" until you have had a chance to
determine if the programs are non malware (they probably are ok, but that's
what RTP is all about - alerting you to potential problems). You can do a
search on the Internet for DDM12... Usually, these are driver routines or
utility programs that interface with a driver and have not yet been
classified by Microsoft. I'm not sure what the Install Shield thing is all
about. It may be a program placed in your start folder (see Start->All
Programs->Startup). Unfortunately, each time you start your computer and
login, you will get these messages even though you said "allow" the last
time. You can modify WD real time protection options to suit your
requirements (Tools->Options->real time protection options). If you are
still unsure why you are getting these messages, update this thread with a
post providing the full text of all the messages issued by WD. Good luck.

Thank you SOoo much guys, I really appreciate the help. I wasn't sure just
what was going on, & YES, it IS a Dell..9150, still new, so maybe Dell is
monitoring..So if it's either Dell or Defender, I trust both..This site has
helped me alot..
