I have new laptop. All is well until I installed battlefield 1942 by ea games (I play on line with my son). I got to disk two and pc locked up. Tried to reinstall and I immediately get error about catastrophic failure.

Laptop would not shut down correctly since this happened last night.

Tried system restore to pint before this and none of restore points tried where successful.

I ran Norton and it found 76 problems in registry and two program files missing. None of these existed before that game install.

How do I recover from this? I am at a loss.

Thanks,

Charles

Your laptop should have come with some method of recovering or
repairing the operating system if something goes wrong. Either a set
of recovery CDs or by the use of a hidden partition on the hard drive.
Suggest you read your laptop manual and see if there are options to
repair the system and the method used to do it.

NOTE: Most recovery systems are destructive in that they will format
the hard drive and install the OS and applications to the way they
were as shipped from the factory. Some recovery systems will attempt
to repair with destroying data, however, in either case before using
any method of recovery, you should back up all your data.
