Install Back Track

I am stuck in the middle of an upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro, and cannot
complete it (See earlier message string "installation error") Is there a way
to back out of this installation to get back top XP home, or am I going to
have to start with a whole new install. Obviously I would like to avoid
having to reinstall all of my programs.

It really would have been better if you quoted some of your earlier
problem. Very few people want to go back through 1,000 posts looking
for your previous posting. That said, most probably you will need to do
a clean install if you tried an upgrade and it failed. If you'd like to
add more information that you think would be helpful in maybe getting
you a different answer, please keep it in this one thread.

It would be worth trying (with no guarantee) a repair install of the
Home - Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard disk, then boot the XP CD,
start Setup (do not take 'Repair' at this stage), then after the license
agreement take 'Repair Installation'. This will retain your existing
software installations and most settings. But Updates will have to be
run again, especially SP1 unless that is already included in your CD.

It is important to activate the basic XP Firewall before you ever
connect to the net to get the patches, so as to be protected against
things like the BLAST worm.
