install 2000 over XP?

i have XP on my computer and i want to install 2000
professional. it will not alow me because it is
currently running a newer version? is there a way to get
around this? i want to run 2000.

There's no way around that.
You must do a clean install and reinstall your applications.
(You will also lose your XP system settings.)
Back up whatever files in the system partition you want to save.
Start the W2k install.
Early in the process you can format the system partition.
Complete the install.
Reinstall your apps.
