Inserting comments

A friend of mine has lost the highlighting feature when he inserts a comment
into a document. In other words, when inserting a comment into a word
document providing additional information about some text, the text used to
be highlighted - now it is not?

How to you change this setting back?

Did you r friend upgrad to Word 2002 (Word XP) recently? I seem to remember
that Word XP doesn't put the highlight in for comments.

Word 2002 no longer highlights comments. Instead it inserts difficult-to-see
colored brackets. Word 2003 still uses the brackets but has restored the
highlight, which is in the "author" color.

Thanks folks for the advice. My friend ended up sending me this message:

I identified how to fix my problem of not seeing my comments in my word doc.
I had to go into tools/options/view then choose "screen tips", to enable the
viewing of the comments.

Comments are displayed in ScreenTips in all versions. If he has any trouble
making the ScreenTips appear in Word 2002, tell him to turn the Document Map
on and back off.

I am using Word 2002 and have tried all these suggestions. The comments
still show at the bottom of the page instead of where they are in the
document. The ballons at the margin are not acceptible either. Any other
ideas?

You can hide the Reviewing Pane (which I assume is what you mean by "the
bottom of the page") and see the comments in ScreenTips.

well, I have 2002 and this isn't working. Screen tip do not work. I see the
irritating brackets but the bubble doesn't appear. I do have NO balloons
checked in tracking options and I DO have Screentips checkecked in view
options.

I tried turning the doc map on and off, no luck there either. highlighting
doesn't help.

what does??
