Inserting CD locks computer

Windows XP-Pro -- lite on CD/CDRW burner. Roxio 7 software. When
inserting a CD-R or RW -- most of the time the computer becomes
unresponsive and has to be rebooted (I can still manually eject CD, but
system still locked)-- when rebooting is done everything fine -- can
read and burn to CDs. A small percentage of the time the auto window
opens without locking. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!

*chuckles* Umm... Not a good one but one that might do the trick?

Hi Dan,

I have this problem with Roxio's software all-the-time.
Try completely removing Roxio's stuff (make sure you have their
disks first, in case you want to reinstall it later). Then
give it a run.

If it is the Roxio stuff, try CDBurnerXP Pro. It is open source,
and as such, has peer review. And, peer review makes for a
lot better code. Don't run them both at the same time.
Roxio's "burn at once" (direct CD) drivers will interfere
(they are probably what is causing your freeze ups).

Direct CD? What version are you using? The last 4 versions have called it
"Drag-To-Disk" (version 6, 7, 7.5 and now 8).

Whatever comes in the box with the cd-rom drives I sell. I was
trying to be generic in my description. Roxio's quality
is not very good. I usually do not install it. Windows
is a lot more stable without it.

I have been using it since version 3. I am now using version 7.5. I have not
had any problems - but then I always keep my system in A1 condition.

Sounds right. I have about 20 customers with it. About a third do not
experience any problems. A lot of the time, there is some interaction
with another program, usually some specialty software that deals with
a niche market that only affect a particular customer.

I am trying to move my CD backup customers over to USB memory stick.
They reduce the complaining from the customers down to zero.
Just my experience, but CD backup should really only be attempted
by computer savvy persons. (And those with a lot of patience!)

I have version 7 of roxio -- thought perhaps it was the cd burner as is
a relatively new problem.
