insert system disk in drive

I installed a new hard drive in my computer and created two partitions,
I left one partion alone and made the other a FAT32. I then booted
from the Windows XP CD and installed Windows on the other partition and
asked it to format it to NTFS. When the computer restarts I get this
error:

insert system disk in drive
press any key to continue

The floppy drive is empty.

I booted to the recovery console and tried:

fixboot and fixmbr but neither work after a restart.

Any idea what I can try?? Thanks in advance for your help.

Format both partitions FAT32, and then try to re-install XP.. when given the
option to format NTFS, accept it..

It turns out for some reason the NTFS partition was not set to active,
I booted to a floppy, ran fdisk and "set active partition" to the NTFS
partition and it booted no problem. Thanks.
