insert ligatures in text

In typesetting systems I wrote, I could search and automatically replace,
ffl, the series of three letters, with a single symbol called a ligature. Can
this be done 'easily' in word via any of the option setings?

You can search and replace, although doing so automatically (ie Replace All)
is a bit dubioustypographically, since not all instances of sequences of fi,
fl, and ffl should be represented by ligatures.

You can do it with Find and Replace or (with difficulty) with AutoCorrect,
but it drives your spelling checker crazy.
