Insert file not responding

When attaching files or pictures to an email in Outlook 2007 the insert file
is slow and almost always shows "not responding". The first click does
nothing and the second click adds the message "insert file (not responding)
With each step in the path I have a minimum of a 3 minute wait to move on.
This is also happening in publisher and sometimes in Word when trying to
insert a photo. I cannot seem to find a fix anywhere. Thanks,

Windows XP: Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop
or in the Windows Start menu, left-click on Disconnect Network Drive,
and disconnect any mapped drives that are not currently available.

Windows Vista: Click on Start | Computer | Tools | Disconnect Network
Drive, and disconnected any mapped drives that are not currently available.
