Insert attachment as text is greyed out.

Hello,

I have a user who is trying to attach an item and then insert a file as
text but the radio button for "text only" is greyed out.

We are using Outlook 2003.

I tried detect and repair but it was a no go.

I am missing a setting somewhere?

Hi Matt,

Before we go any further, please take a screen shot of the window when you try to insert items > choose insert as Text Only or
Attachment.

How to take a screen shot, please follow the steps below:
------------------------------------------------------------------
a. When screen shows up, press the Print Screen key (right of F12 key) Note: nothing will happen.
b. Open MS Paint program (click Start menu > All Programs > Accessories > Paint).
c. Click Edit (menu) -> Paste or press Ctrl + V.
d. Click File (menu) -> Save. Save it as a *.jpg file and send it to me as an attachment.

In addition, perform the steps below to see if it works.

Check Outlook safe mode
======
1. Quit Outlook. Click Start menu, and click Run.
2. In the Open box, type: "Outlook /safe" (without the quotation marks).
Notes: There is a space character between Outlook and the forward slash (/).
3. Click OK.
4. Open an email. click on the email body. Click Insert > Items. Can the Text Only option be chosen?

If the issue persists under Outlook safe mode, create a new Outlook profile to test the issue.

To create an e-mail profile, please refer to the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB):

287072 OL2002: How to Create a New E-mail Profile for Outlook (This article is also useful for Outlook 2003)

If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I know this may be a dumb question but where do I send the screen shot, or
how do I attach it this post?

Hello,

I sent you over the screen shot. I did recreate the users profile but that
didn't seem to help.
I also unchecked the Word email editor and that seemed to work but that is
only a temporary fix. How can I fix the Word email editor?

Again, thanks for all of your help, you have been great!

Hello,

I took off the Word editor and we can now insert as text only. I also
checked about 5 other machines, all using the Word editor, and all 5 have the
insert as text only grayed out. Is this not a feature for the Word editor?

Hi Matt,

Yes, we are unable to insert the Outlook items (messages, contacts) as 'Text Only' in the message window when using Word as email
editor. It's a by design feature. Thanks so much for your understanding.

If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

By the way, I will be OOF during Mar. 31 - Apr. 4. My backup engineer will reply to you if you post back. Thanks.
