Insert accent grave or aigu

How do I insert the accent symbol \ or / over a letter to represent the
accent grave (French)? I know to go to INSERT on the Menu Bar and go to
Symbol on the submenu, but I can't find them in there and don't know how to
place them ABOVE the letter. Is there a special keyboard stroke by chance?

Usually, you can press Ctrl+accent followed by the letter. For example, when
I press Ctrl+' e, I get é

Just fyi - é is a sperate character in and of itself under insert symbol -
you don't have to place an accent over a letter, just find the letter with
the accent.
