Input Mask Question

Dear All,

I created the text box and edit the input mask 0000/00;;" ".
But I need to move the cursor manually to go to the next position of the
text box.

for example,
I want to input 2007/04
The typing sequence is 2, ->, 0, ->, 0, ->, 7, ->, 0, ->, 4
("->" means left arrow button).

Several things.

1) -> looks like a Right Arrow, not a Left arrow (I assume that's a typo)

2) WHY do you need to manually move to the next position

3) If you must, why can't you move using the arrows? Nothing in the input
mask prevents this.

Thank you for your reply and sorry for my poor english casuses you
misunderstood.

1). Yes, that's the typo.

2 & 3). I don't want to manually move to the next position. My expected
typing sequence is 2,0,0,7,0,4. But now, I need to move the cursor manually
in the text box with the input mask 0000/00;;" ". I don't know what is the
problem !

Thank you again for you help!

So you are saying that when you enter data the cursor is not moving to the
next space?

Hello Jason,

You mean that you have to manually move the cursor to the next position
when you input 2007/04? I was not able to reproduce the issue on my side.
When I use input mask "0000/00", the cursor moves automatically to next
position when I input a number.

Does the issue occur if you use other input masks? What's the version of
Access you use? Did you try it on a blank new database?

If you have any update, please feel free to let's know. Thank you.

Helle Peter,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Yes, the issue occurs when I use other input mask. And the access verison is
2002 with SP3. I had tried to create new database file and the issue still
occurred.

Jason

Hello Jason,

I doubt this is a machine specific issue. Did you try the database on a
diffrent machine and/or log on as a different user? To isolate the issue,
please check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. To enter Safe Mode:

1. When the Boot Menu appears at startup, press F8.
2. On the Windows Advanced Options Menu, select Safe Mode and press Enter.
3. When the Boot Menu appears again, select Microsoft Windows, and press
Enter.
4. Log in Windows by using the Administrator account and password.

I look forward to your reply. Thanks.

Hi Peter,

You are right !! When I logged in by administrator account and tried the
access. The issue didn't occur. What is the problem of the original account ?

Thank you very much for your help and look forward to your reply.

Best Regards,
Jason

Hello Jason,

Since the issue only occurs with one user, it shall be related to user
profile. You may want to create a new user to test to make sure the problem
only occurs with that user. If so, you may want to refer to the following
KB to copy the data to the new user profile from the old profile.

811151 How to Copy User Data to a New User Profile

Hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please feel free to
let's know. Thanks.

Hello Peter,

The problem had been solved when I recreated user profile.
But now, I developed a new application and it will be used by amount of user.
And I have tested the application at some user's PC, the problem have been
occurred.

Could you help to find the problem of the original profile?

Sorry to bothering you again.

Best regards,
Jason.

Hello Jason,

Thank you for your reply. Based on my experince, sometimes it's difficult
to pinpoint the exact corruption of a user profile because it might be
related to a temp file or a registry key missing/corruption.

You may want to use regmon and/or filemon to monitor Access running in old
user profile and compare it with that in new user profile to find more clues

RegMon for Windows v7.04
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/processesandthreads/regmon.msp
x

FileMon for Windows v7.04
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/systeminformation/filemon.mspx

Also, you could backup the ntuser.dat of old profile, and copy the one from
new user profile to overwrite it to see if it's user related registry key
issue.

Hope this is helpful. Please let's know if you have any further questions.
Thanks.
