Input for reformatting hard drive #2

Drive #2 labelled F has developed 'bad blocks' several chkdsk scans
produce many files so I believe the Event and System log reports even
though the name listed didn't exactly match the name of the second hard
drive<grin>
This is not a hard drive where an operating system will reside. It has
been strictly a data file storage. I backed up files I wanted, burned
to CD and deleted directories and files - some image files will not
delete and they are likely damaged.
I thought I could reformat through the Disk Management section but it is
greyed out...not available.

Is reformatting a second harddrive done at the flashing cursor (F8 and
Dos) procedure?
Is the routine to get into the root directory of F and use the command
Format F:/?

I have searched on format and reformat and the topics are focused on
preparing to reinstall the operating system which is not my situation.
A new hard drive is ordered to be installed tomorrow but I thought I
would have a go at doing a (re)format on this drive just to see how it
goes.

Well, I'm replying to my own question <lol> It appears that a right
click on the drive concerned while in Windows Explorer results in a
FORMAT choice on the right click pop out menu. Hardly simple.

No, that is not acceptable says Xpsp2 Home. Cannot format when stuff is
accessing the drive etc.
I wonder if that could be Zone Alarm, Network, Microsoft Defender ....
Then there is a Console Recover routine
Wouldn't it be simpler to just be in Dos and type out the Format command
with switches?
Would this below be correct? (Currently the F drive is labelled 'New
Volume'

At the flashing C: Format F: /fs:ntfs /v:NewVolume /x
Or do I have to be in the F drive directory?
