Ink cartridge compatibles - people's opinions?

D

I would like to know what are people's opinions and mainly their
experiences using compatible cartridges for their inkjet printers.

I'am considering getting some compatibles for my epson stylus c64 and
wonder if it would do it any damage.

Thanks in advance

You could start with reading the [many] previous posts on this matter in this

You would be better scraping that old printer and get a canon i860 or i865
and then you won't have to worry about the cost of ink's, I did ....

Some of the well known and inherently reliable compatibles could even be
superior to OEM catridges. At least many of our customers think so. The
JetTec "Lightfast", pigmented inks for the C64/C84 have now been optimised
to produce better Photo prints on JetTec Polymer coated paper types. Rather
than sitting on the surface the pigment soaks in and drys instantly - and
equally giving improved longevity. Cartridges and ink are unconditionally
guaranteed.

I use two Epson 2200. I use original Epson inks in one and MIS
(www.inksupply.com) inks in the other. So far, I cannot tell the
difference, no matter what size paper I use (from 4x6 to 11x17).

Note however that I tried different types of paper besides Epson's and
only the Epson papers are satisfactory. I tried Kodak, HP, and
Printworks paper but none of them match the Epson (on these papers I get
what appears to be "granules" as if drops don't get absorbed fast enough
into the paper and hence have time to merge together in globs).

Try Canon paper. It worked for me.

1. There is no reason to believe that 3rd party ink is
intrinsically inferior to what the mfg sells. What IS true is that
you have some assurance that OEM will work, and you have no assuarance
that a randonly selected 3rd party product will work.

2. Lots of people use 3rd party ink, cartridges, refill kits, and
coninuous feed systems. Stick with the major suppliers, and you
should do all right. (Oh yes, follow the )(*%&^$)( instructions!!

I use MIS ink in 2 Epsons (one pigment, the other "OEM-equivalnet
dye") Excellent results in both. www.inksupply.com

I have been using compatible carts ever since I bought my first epson 600.
I am still using them with my C80.
True not as good as the durabrite ink, it does just fine on everday
printing . If I were doing lots of photo or legal work I might pay the
extra for the better spread.
My compatible carts Cost $3.50 each for the 80.
The epson carts at OD are up to $32.00 each.
I live on very limited income and have no choice but to use the less
expensive ones.
I my very happy with the quality of the cheaper ones.

Hi Mwalch,

I know that the Epson 2200 is supported by One Touch so you might want to
give that a try.

Also, the settings for your printer and Kodak paper are on our website.
Just go to the site and choose Inkjet from the site listing. Look for
settings on that page. you will be able to find your printer without much
trouble.

I just ordered from a company that is selling "compatible" ink for 1/3
the retail price of Epson ink. I received 3 light magenta cartridges
in the mail in 4 days. Installed the first cartridge and no matter
what correction I tried, all pictures had a ghastly green tint to
them. I removed the "compatible" ink and the next print was right on
the money color-wise. I have used Ilford Pearl paper with great
results (using Epson ink, of course). I also get good results from
Kodak matte paper. Epson paper always gives great results. Hope this
helps.
