infrared transceivers

I am trying to setup infrared file transfer to transfer
files from my laptop to my desk top and want to know if
my "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" will support
such a thing and if so why doesnt a "Wireless Link"
appear in my control panel. Windows help tells me
that "Wireless link" should appear in the control panel
if a transceiver is properly installed and that infrared
file transfer is enabled through this link. From what I
have been able to find out, my transceiver is installed
and working but still no "wireless link" appears.

It is not supported for infrared transfer.
