Infrared there, but no Wireless Link Icon

My Infrared Wireless device shows up fine in device
manager, but the Wireless Link Icon in Control panel is
missing. What would make Windows XP not display the
Wireless Link Icon? I have a feeling there is a conflict
w/ either my wireless phone or wireless network. Any
advice would be appreciated. I also installed a serial IR
device which works great as a sniffer, and shows up in
device manager, but again w/ no Wireless Link Icon I can't
use it to link up w/ other systems.

A missing file most likely. From a Command Prompt try the following
commands,
control infrared
control %SystemRoot%\system32\irprops.cpl
and if both fail check that the named file does indeed not exist.

Now and then, there are reports, here and elsewhere, of missing file errors
from the infrared sub-system. However I've never been completely sure that
the error does truly mean there is a missing file, and still wonder whether
it may indicate another sort of error.

Anyway, maybe in your case there really are files missing. As well as the
one above, can you check for the following files there too: irmon.dll,
irftp.exe. If they are missing, well then you need them to be installed...
I'm not sure how one would accomplish that...maybe delete all the infrared
devices (reboot?) and re-attach the irda devices... I assume there's some
set of dependencies through the INF files but I've not managed to follow
it...
