Infrared Connection to the Internet with Sony Erricson T68I Mobile

I can logon to the internet from my laptop using my mobile and the Infrared
connection port

Is it possible to connect at speeds higher that 9600. I have downloaded all
the software from sony but it still only connects at 9600. Works okay
albeit a little slow. Do I need to use GPRS or GSM?? or should I buy a usb
cable for the mobile?

the reason you can only go up to 9600 is because that is
the fastest a phone can make a normal data call. Data
over wireless phones is SLOW.

For faster speeds, you will need a 3G wireless phone with
either GPRS (t-mobile, cingular west coast, AT&T GSM only)
or 1xRTT (sprint's vision). These phones are not
cheap...and using the phone to make data calls may not
work (only at the slow speed). the 3G is for faster data,
but it may be that only the phone can use it, not external
devices. A USB cable would be the best bet IF you can use
external devices to use the 3G data stream of your phone.
All phones are different and have different restrictions
on external devices.
