Information store could not be opened.

I have managed to screw up my Outlook and now receive the
following message each time I try to open
Outlook: "Unable to open your default e-mail folders.
The information store could not be opened." I have
removed the email account in Outlook via the Control
Panel to no avail. I have uninstalled Microsoft Office
XP and reinstalled it to no avail. I have Outlook 2002.
Any suggestions are welcome.

List the steps that produced this problem.
Did you move your Outlook Data File?
If not, have you used the Inbox Repair Tool to try to repair it?

I removed the email account in Outlook but my data file
is still there. There are now several data files in the
folder because of my attempts to recreate the email
account. It appears that I can remove any of these data
files except for one that appears to be associated with
an account even though I have no account set up at this
time. I am not familiar with the Inbox Repair Tool -
where to find it and how to use it.

You have managed to disconnect your Outlook profile from its data file (PST
file). I don't know how you did it, but it doesn't really matter.
Do you know the name and location of your Outlook Data File? Just create a
new Outlook Profile and configure it to use this file.

I was mistaken. I can now open Outlook without the
information store message and I can access my calendar
and contacts as well as old email I have filed, but I can
not send or receive email. Someone has mentioned an
Inbox Repair Tool. Is this something I need to use and
if so how so I find/run it. Suggestions are welcome.

No. This is a separate issue not related to your PST file.
You have provided no troubleshooting information that would permit us to
address it.

It is recommended to not install outlook and exchange server 2000 or later versions at the same computer. These are conflicting programs and often results into The information store could not be opened error message. You need to reinstall exchange server and make some necessary changes in registry editor to correct this error.
