Index / TOC formatting

Hi,

I'm using Windows XP and Word 2003.

I have created a Procedure Manual, many pages long, but with no sections. I
have attached Index headings in various places (insert/reference/index).

When I add a new indexed heading and update the Index, the format of the
index changes - some lines are in bold print or italics, and some are even in
a different font.

I'm unsure why this is happening. Can anyone come up with some helpful
suggestions?

Do the index entry fields have formatting applied to them? Display hidden
text and have a look. Clear any undesired formatting that you find.

Another possibility is that the Index styles, which are used to format the
entries of the index have formatting that you don't want. You can modify
(http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styles/ModifyAStyle.html) these styles to
include the desired formatting.
