Index now option Windows search 4.0

Trana

When I right click the Windows search icon down in the toolbar next to the
clock, the option to Index now is greyed out. When I select the option Index
status the option Index now isnt greyed and works fine.

Is there any smart person out there who knows why its greyed in the first
senario, and if I can change that somehow. I would really appreciate the
help!! :)

Trana,
to clarify: is this 'Windows Live Desktop Search' that you're
talking about, that is installed on your machine?

Trana,
Yes, it's the same one. Unfortunately, I have removed this from
my XP system because it was eating up far too much in the way of resources.
I can only suppose that the icon is 'greyed' out because the updating of
it's database of files on local hard-drives is incomplete for some reason.
Has it been configured to update it's database? What status messages (if
any) are displayed if you move your mouse pointer over the inactive
'magnifying glass' icon in the taskbar (systray)?
On my system, before I removed it, it was taking an enormous amount of
time to complete it's updating, until it was complete it too would be
'greyed' out.

The index status says its complete, and I dont seem to have any problem with
the index. I tried to recreate the index but the result is the same. And I
totally agree with you, the function consumes to much power. I blame my
customers for asking stupid questions that forces me to install this ;)

And sure I can move this post, but as far as I understood it that forum was
only for delvelopers who develop features for windows search. And my question
feels more like a general support question.

Anyway, thanks for the help
