Windows Search 4.0 restore indexing locations

Neko

Hello

Every now and then Windows Search 4.0 restore indexing locations. That is
happened many times, and I am starting to be a little bit fed up. I have
added some folders I like to keep indexed, and it will keep those folders
indexed some time. But today again I noticed that indexing locations are
restored to original and my folders are not indexed. :(

Is this known bug or can I do something about it?

This is with Windows XP Pro SP3

One or more options/settings in an ever-growing number of third-party
applications may be disallowing the change(s) from "sticking". These include
but are not limited to Ad-aware Pro Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer,
SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, CounterSpy, AVG Anti-Spyware,
Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, NOD32, and Zone Alarm
(Free, Pro, & Security Suite).

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed WinXP SP3 or Windows Search 4?

There is only F-Secure Client Security 7.11 (antivirus/spy+firewall and so
on) and it was running when Windows Search was installed.

None of those are used. Any other ideas?

I also asked if it was running when you installed WinXP SP3, I believe.

If you upgraded from WDS v3 to WS v4, uninstall WS v4 via Add/Remove
Programs & reboot. If you find WDS v3 listed in Add/Remove Programs,
uninstall it & reboot, then do a fresh install of WS v4.

Today WDS lost my locations again, and I uninstalled it. There was no WDS 3.
But now I have got enough, I installed Google Desktop Search. Thank you
anyway.
