Increasing connection speed

Some of us may find that after installing Windows XP, the
Internet connection gets slower. A possible reason for
this is the QoS (Quality of Service) installed. This
service reserves 20 percent of the bandwidth for itself,
even with QoS disabled. In order to remove this reserved
quota, you will have to make sure you are logged on as
Administrator. Go to Start>Run and type A gpedit.msc,
Expand the 'local computer policy' branch, and
the 'network' branch. Highlight the QoS Packet Sheduler'
in the left window and in the right window doubleclick
the 'limit reservable bandwidth' setting. Then, on the
setting tab, check the 'enabled' item and change
the 'Bandwidth limit %' to read 0.After doing this, you
should notice a boost in your Internet connection speed.

Sorry dude, but keep getting the message "gpedit.msc"
could not be found. Tried with "A gpedit.msc" and
just "gpedit".

Can any of the MVPs comment on this?

I do not seem to have gpedit.msc.

Also, is there a way to measure what the speed of the dialup connection
really is?

It won't do anything. This is a well publicized tweak which actually does
nothing.

Useless and incorrect.

This has been floating around for a long time. This tweak does nothing to
increase speed. It only works with very specific SERVER applications that
are "QoS aware".
For 99.9% of computers, it does absolutely nothing.

| I do not seem to have gpedit.msc.

gpedit is available with XP Pro, but not XP Home.
